Cultural events you should not miss during your visit in Bratislava

The Cultural Summer and Castle Festival

Starting from June and lasting to September, residents and visitors to Bratislava alike will once again witness the biggest multigenre festival in the city. There is something for everyone, the program will cater to music lovers, movie goers, even history buffs. Proven mainstays such as Knights on Devín Castle, the Cathedral Organ Festival, Traveling Cinema, or Bratislava Inline will be joined by several new ventures.

Bratislava Coronation Days

Although smallest of the capitals in the region, the history of Bratislava is a glorious one. During the Ottoman occupation of Hungary, Pressburg as it was once known became the coronation town, the seat of kings, and many other major organisations and authorities. Nowadays the famous past is remembered by cultural events, performances, games and a procession.

Galleries and museums

There are almost 50 museums, 20 galleries, and 30 theatres in the city to choose from. Located on the Danube peninsula, the Danubiana Art Museum offers a unique view not only of the river, but also of its impressive architecture and modern art works of contemporary Slovak and world artists. Summer Shakespeare Festival

Taking place in the courtyard of the Bratislava Castle, the Summer Shakespeare Festival is the biggest and oldest of its kind in Slovakia. This year the audience will see various performances including Hamlet, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and The Comedy of Errors.

Viva Musica! Festival

From its opening year in 2005, the largest summer music festival has offered unique and high quality venues to the audience. This year the festival opens a Hollywood legend John Malkovich, who is coming to Bratislava with his project Report on the Blind. The festival brings music to unique places in unique situations.

Open air cinemas

In summer, your ordinary cinemas pale in comparison to watching movies under the stars. Starting from July, open air cinemas will open on various places throughout the city with many being free of charge.
